Wilkes-Barre Driver License Center Reactivates Services Following COVID-19 Closure

WILKES-BARRE, PA – The Wilkes-Barre Driver License Center has officially reactivated its services following a temporary closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The Center, located on South Main Street, had been closed for several months as a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of the virus. However, with the recent decrease in cases and successful vaccination efforts, the Center has resumed its operations to the relief of many local residents.

The reactivation of services at the Driver License Center comes as a welcome relief to residents who have been waiting to renew or obtain their driver’s licenses. Many people had been facing difficulties in scheduling appointments and obtaining essential documents while the Center was closed. With the reopening of the Center, residents can now access the services they need to ensure they are legally able to drive on the roads.

“I am so relieved that the Driver License Center has reopened,” said local resident Sarah Johnson. “I had been trying to schedule an appointment for months, but with the closure, it was nearly impossible. Now, I can finally renew my license and get back on the road.”

The Driver License Center is operating with limited capacity and strict safety measures in place to ensure the health and well-being of both staff and customers. All visitors are required to wear masks and practice social distancing while inside the Center. Additionally, appointments are now mandatory to limit the number of people inside the building at any given time.

“We are taking the necessary precautions to ensure the safety of everyone who visits the Center,” said Center Manager, John Smith. “We understand the importance of providing these services to the community, but we must prioritize safety above all else. We appreciate the cooperation of our customers as we navigate through these challenging times.”

The reactivation of services at the Driver License Center also comes at a time when Pennsylvania is experiencing a backlog of license renewals and other services due to the pandemic. The Department of Motor Vehicles has been working diligently to address these backlogs and ensure that all residents are able to access the services they need in a timely manner.

“We understand that many people have been waiting patiently for the Driver License Center to reopen,” said Secretary of Transportation, Amanda Brown. “We are doing everything in our power to streamline the process and address the backlog of services as quickly as possible. We appreciate the patience and understanding of our residents during this time.”

In addition to the reactivation of services at the Driver License Center, the Department of Motor Vehicles has also implemented several new initiatives to make it easier for residents to obtain their licenses and other necessary documents. These initiatives include expanded online services, extended hours at certain locations, and the introduction of mobile units to reach underserved communities.

“We are continuously looking for ways to improve our services and make it easier for residents to access the documents they need,” said Secretary Brown. “Our goal is to provide efficient and effective service to the people of Pennsylvania while also ensuring their safety and well-being. We are committed to making the process as smooth as possible for everyone.”

As the Wilkes-Barre Driver License Center reactivates its services and continues to work through the backlog of services, residents are encouraged to schedule appointments in advance and adhere to all safety guidelines while visiting the Center. By working together and following the necessary protocols, the Center hopes to provide a smooth and efficient experience for all customers.
