Vietnam to Introduce New Regulations for Driver Licenses
Vietnam is known for its bustling streets filled with motorbikes and cars, with nearly 45 million registered vehicles in the country as of 2021. In response to the growing number of vehicles on the roads and concerns about road safety, the Vietnamese government has announced new regulations for obtaining a driver’s license.
According to the Ministry of Transport, the new regulations will include stricter requirements for obtaining a driver’s license, as well as increased penalties for traffic violations. The goal is to improve road safety and reduce the number of accidents on Vietnam’s roads.
One of the major changes to the driver’s license regulations will be the implementation of a points-based system. Under this system, each driver will start with a certain number of points, and points will be deducted for traffic violations. If a driver accumulates a certain number of points within a specified time period, their license may be suspended or revoked.
Another change to the regulations is the requirement for drivers to undergo regular medical check-ups to ensure that they are fit to drive. This is particularly important for older drivers, as vision and hearing loss can affect their ability to drive safely.
In addition to these new regulations, the Ministry of Transport is also considering raising the minimum age for obtaining a driver’s license. Currently, the minimum age for a motorcycle license is 18, while the minimum age for a car license is 24. The Ministry is considering raising these ages to 20 and 26, respectively, in order to ensure that drivers have more experience before getting behind the wheel.
The government is also working on improving driver education and training programs in Vietnam. Currently, many drivers in Vietnam learn to drive from friends or family members, rather than attending a formal driving school. The government hopes that by improving driver education, they can reduce the number of accidents on the roads.
Overall, the new regulations for driver’s licenses in Vietnam are aimed at improving road safety and reducing the number of accidents on the roads. By implementing a points-based system, requiring regular medical check-ups, and increasing the minimum age for obtaining a license, the government hopes to create safer roads for all drivers in Vietnam.
